Manchester United had no interest in Roberto Firmino – report

Manchester United did not register any interest in Roberto Firmino before he completed a £29m move to Liverpool, according to Mike Keegan.

The 23-year-old had been linked with a number of Premier League clubs including Chelsea and Man United after registering 15 goals and ten assists in all competitions last season for German club Hoffenheim.

United were reportedly the leading candidates for the talented youngster but Liverpool eventually closed the deal to make him their second most expensive signing ever.

United were said to be looking at Firmino back in April but it appears that they passed on him following the signing of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven.

It would have been nice to get excited about another new face but the decision makes sense.

After all, Louis van Gaal currently has the likes of Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj, Angel di Maria, Andreas Pereira and Ashley Young, who can all play in Firmino’s position.

Liverpool have got themselves a good player but United were wise not to go for him because there are other positions, namely defensive midfield, where investment is more of a necessity.
