Manchester United submit opening Sergio Ramos offer above £30m

Manchester United have submitted an initial cash offer upwards of £30m to Real Madrid for Sergio Ramos.

Reports this week suggested any deal for Ramos would have been as part of a swap that saw David de Gea moved to Madrid but Ed Woodward has moved to test the waters with a straight cash offer.

The Independent, Daily Mail, The Mirror and other British media outlets all covered reports of a Ramos bid last night, so it looks like the club has been briefing the press once again.

United’s opening offer of around £35m for Ramos is a great way to test the waters. It’s unlikely to be enough, especially considering it doesn’t include De Gea as part of the deal, but it will at least get the conversations started.

Madrid are going to dig their heels in with Ramos to ensure they get the best possible price and United will do exactly the same with De Gea. In that sense, this potential transfer could drag on somewhat.

However, as Ramos has already told the club he wants to leave, the ball is firmly in United’s court which is precisely why Woodward has gone in with a cash offer to begin with.

Just 48 hours ago, if you had told United fans there was a possibility Ramos could be signed this summer then they would have probably laughed.

Now, everything is falling into place for Ramos to get a bumper new contract at Madrid or secure a summer exit. United fans are certainly hoping it is the latter.
