Southampton accept Liverpool’s £12.5m offer for Nathaniel Clyne – report

Southampton have accepted a £12.5m bid from Liverpool for Nathaniel Clyne, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Clyne had been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United earlier this month but it appears the club have dropped their interest.

The right-back is currently on holiday in America but he will discuss personal terms and complete a medical with Liverpool when he returns.

Clyne, who will replace Glen Johnson at Anfield, is expected to sign a five-year contract.

Louis van Gaal often turned to Antonio Valencia down United’s right flank last season but there is no doubt that he will need an upgrade on the position if the team are to be successful next term.

With Clyne now gone, it is unclear who exactly United will bring in. Monaco’s Fabinho has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as has Everton’s Seamus Coleman.

Of course, there is the possibility that Rafael could revive his career at United having seemingly disappeared from van Gaal’s thoughts. The majority of fans would love to see him back in the first-team but it looks like he will be moved on this summer.
