Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin for £24m.
Memphis Depay is Man United’s only current signing so far this summer but it looks like Schneiderlin will be the next to follow him through the doors at Old Trafford.
Schneiderlin is capable of playing in the No.6 midfield role which Louis van Gaal is so keen to fill to provide United with a genuine alternative to Michael Carrick, and the 25-year-old certainly fits that description.
United were linked with Schneiderlin last summer but an exodus of their players stopped him from leaving Southampton, so he has had to wait another year.
Depay was an excellent start to the transfer window but Schneiderlin’s arrival would be a huge moment for United simply because he’s a player which the squad desperately needs.
With Premier League experience under his belt, Schneiderlin would take no time at all in adapting to life at Old Trafford which is a big advantage and in terms of having a team which is capable of challenging on all fronts next year, his addition would go some way towards that.
