Phil Jones has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United to keep him at the club until at least 2019, with an option to extend for a further year.
The 23-year-old had a stop-start season last year under Louis van Gaal but clearly impressed enough to earn himself a new contract.
Since arriving in 2011, Jones hasn’t quite lived up to expectation and become a regular first-team at United. Instead, he has endured a seemingly endless string of injuries which has forced him to miss so much football at the club.
That being said, fans are excited to see what Jones can do next year under Van Gaal but he still has to convince some fans, as not everybody agrees it was the right decision to hand him a new contract.
I have to admit, waking up to our signing of Phil Jones isn't exactly what I had hoped for… #MUFC

I don't want to live in a world where Phil Jones earns £100,000 a week

With four more years left on his contract, Jones has now got plenty of time to prove himself at the club but he needs to improve in a number of areas.
The main thing Jones needs to get better at, and quickly, is with his decision making as he is caught of position far too often.
Van Gaal sees something in Jones and gave him a new contract because of it. Whether he makes the most of it is entirely up to him.
