Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out a move for Manchester United’s Angel di Maria this summer.
The Argentinian had been linked to Bayern following a disappointing campaign last term but Guardiola was quick to dismiss claims that the German side were interested in securing his services.
Di Maria has been excellent during the Copa America and he will look to continue his good form in the final against Chile on Saturday.
Guardiola admitted he is fully aware of the player’s qualities but ruled out a move for the winger.
“I don’t have to watch Argentina games, because I know him and his style of playing very well. United did not pay so much money for nothing, he is a great player. Although such transfer fees are sometimes really crazy,” he said.
When asked if he was interested in signing Di Maria, the Spaniard replied: “No.”
Di Maria was signed by United in the summer of 2014 and he made an impressive start to life at Old Trafford.
An injury in December ruled him out for three games and he failed to make a real impact after that, only making appearances from the substitute’s bench in what must have been a frustrating time for the player.
Despite this, the £59.7m signing has told United fans that he wants to remain at Old Trafford next season in order to justify his price tag. If his form at the Copa America is anything to go by then he appears to have his hunger back.
