Manchester United winger Luis Nani is set to have a medical at Turkish side Fenerbahce after the clubs agreed on a £4.25m fee.
A move to Fenerbahce will put an end to Nani’s eight year association with Man United and give him a fresh opportunity to revive his career.
Having joined Man United for €25.5m from Sporting Lisbon in 2007, it’s a remarkably low amount for a player who does still possess some real match winning qualities.
The fact Louis van Gaal is willing to sell Nani for what it a low fee given his ability, it’s indicative of United’s desire, almost desperation, to get his £100,000 a week wages off the books.
In his pomp, Nani was an asset to the team but that influence declined as he aged, thanks to a succession of serious injuries from which he never recovered. Now, he’ll be plying his trade in Turkey.
Nani’s a fantastic player when in full swing but United fans know all too well that he blows hot and cold more often than the English weather, so it would have been impossible to warrant £100,000 a week wages to keep him at the club.
What do you think about United selling Nani for £4.25m? Are you just happy he is going to leave?
