Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is ’99% certain’ to join Porto, according to AS.
The report states that the Madrid captain and Spanish international is closing in on a move to the Portuguese outfit, with the 34-year-old open to the idea of playing in the Super League.
However, the potential deal has stalled as Porto are demanding that Los Merengues top up Casillas’ reported €13m wages.
The goalkeepers future has been the subject of speculation this summer, with the veteran unsure of his role in Rafa Benitez’s squad should he complete the signing of Manchester United’s David de Gea.
Man United fans will be frustrated to hear of Casillas’ intentions, with any decision he takes likely to affect the immediate future of David de Gea.
If Casillas does leave Los Blancos, then it is widely expected that de Gea will make the switch to Madrid to replace him, something United fans do not want to see happen.
However, any deal regarding de Gea has been complicated by United’s reported interest in Sergio Ramos, a deal that is apparently still being negotiated.
United representatives seem to be playing hardball with Madrid and are unwilling to let De Gea leave the club unless Ramos makes a switch in the opposite direction. Supporters will hope that any rumours of a Casillas move are false as it would dramatically increase the chances of De Gea staying in Manchester for at least another year.
