Manchester United closing in on deal for Torino’s Matteo Darmian

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Torino full-back Matteo Darmian.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that talks are under way and the 25-year-old Italian could become the right-back signing who Louis van Gaal is keen to secure.

Darmian is widely considered to have been one of the best performers in the Serie A over the last 12 months and with both Dani Alves and Nathaniel Clyne off the cards, United don’t have too many available options left in the market for a new right-back.

Comfortable at playing both on the left or right, Darmian’s versatility is something that would immediately appeal to Van Gaal given his penchant for ‘multi-functional’ players and at just €20m, he’d be relatively cheap when you consider Luke Shaw cost £30m.

Di Marzio has an excellent track record when it comes to transfers involving Serie A clubs and United fans are certainly hoping his information is accurate with Darmian.
