Nicolas Otamendi’s future has been one of the big talking points for Manchester United fans in this summer window.
The Valencia centre-back was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but rumours died down thanks to his involvement in the Copa America. Now, the latest from AS in Spain suggests Man United are close to securing a move for him.
Otamendi’s future has been discussed at length in recent months with Louis van Gaal keen to bring him to Old Trafford, reportedly to partner Sergio Ramos, should he sign for the club.
Otamendi was named in the La Liga team of the season last year thanks to his strong and dominant performances, two characteristics that fans really want to see in an imposing defender of the Nemanja Vidic ilk.
United fans have been bombarded with stories regarding Otamendi and Ramos for a number of weeks now and there hasn’t been much in terms of real action.
However, with pre-season just around the corner, that action is expected to pick up very soon and if both players, hypothetically, were to end up at United, Louis van Gaal would have one of the Premier League’s best partnerships at his disposal. Imagine that.
