Manchester United are still interested in signing Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin despite reaching an agreement with Bayern Munich over the transfer of Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Man United have been strongly linked with moves for both players for a number of weeks and they finally secured the signature of Schweinsteiger on Saturday.
The German is a world-class talent but there had been fears amongst United’s fanbase that the club might subsequently drop their interest in Schneiderlin.
However, this is not the case and Louis van Gaal is still keen on a deal for the 25-year-old.
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman recently revealed that the Saints had turned down an initial offer from United for Schneiderlin, thought to be £20m. They reportedly believe they can get £27m for him.
United suffered from a worrying lack of depth in midfield last season so the club should be doing all they can to sign Schneiderlin as well as Schweinsteiger.
If they do end up getting the former, then suddenly United will have a midfield that can help them challenge on all fronts next term.
