Fans’ view: Is Bastian Schweinsteiger ‘too old’ to be a success at Manchester United?

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United officially confirmed that the club had reached an agreement with Bayern Munich over the transfer of Bastian Schweinsteiger on Saturday and fans have understandably been getting excited.

However, supporters of other clubs have poured cold water on the move by suggesting that Schweinsteiger may be too old to make a real impact at Old Trafford.

The German will be 31 by the time the new Premier League season kicks off in August and there are concerns that he is past his peak.

We asked our Twitter followers for their thoughts on whether or not Schweinsteiger is too old to be a success at Man United:

Schweinsteiger is a world-class player who has a wealth of experience at the very highest level.

Louis van Gaal would have been fully aware of his age when he bought him and there is no doubt that the pair will work together to adapt his game once he does slow down. Paul Scholes, Andrea Pirlo and various others did it to devastating effect towards the end of their respective careers.

For the time being, United have got themselves a fabulous player. He is exactly what the side needs right now and will no doubt be a success in the Premier League.
