Robin van Persie has thanked fans of both Arsenal and Manchester United as he closes the door on his Premier League career.

The 31-year-old was unveiled this afternoon by Fenerbahce having signed a three-year deal with the Turkish club which puts an end to a three year career at Old Trafford.

Prior to that, Van Persie spent eight years at Arsenal but undoubtedly the best time of his career was the 2012/13 season where he finally lifted the Premier League trophy after waiting so long for it.

Given how important he was to United in that title winning season, it’s a little bit surprising to see Man United haven’t officially acknowledged he has left the club yet but nevertheless, the fans certainly have.

Van Persie might not have lived up to the expectations which he set himself in his first year at United but first and foremost he will be remembered for that fantastic debut season.

Not since Eric Cantona had an individual player had such a transformative impact on his own. Van Persie inspired United all the way to their 20th English title and almost did it on his own.

So, with that in mind, we’ve got a message for you too Van Persie – thank you.
