Fans’ view: What do you make of Louis van Gaal’s comments on Victor Valdes?

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was pulling no punches in his press conference on Wednesday and Victor Valdes, in particular, felt the Dutchman’s wrath.

When asked why Valdes had been left out of the squad for the pre-season tour of the United States, van Gaal revealed the goalkeeper had not been following his “philosophy” and that he refused to play for the U21s last season.

The revelation came as a shock to Man United fans and Valdes soon hit back by questioning van Gaal’s comments on social media.

We asked our Twitter followers for their thoughts on whether or not van Gaal was being honest or unprofessional:

The issue is a divisive one for supporters. On the one hand, it is good to see that van Gaal is not willing to tolerate players who don’t follow his instructions.

On the other, the Dutchman may have been better off keeping the problem inside the club rather than playing it out in public.

In any case, it is clear that van Gaal is the boss. After the reign of David Moyes, it is good to see a United manager establishing firm control of the club.
