Louis van Gaal informed Robin van Persie that he had no future at Manchester United at the club’s end-of-season golf day.

Van Persie was unveiled as a Fenerbahce player this week after reportedly suffering a breakdown in his relationship with van Gaal.

The 31-year-old’s exit has been met with mixed feelings from Man United fans as he played a pivotal role in the club’s 20th Premier League title.

Van Gaal refused to divulge details of van Persie’s departure but admitted that he told him he would be sold during the charity golf day.

“I have said that in a conversation with him and we have to keep it like that,” van Gaal said.

“But he knew that already from the day we have played golf. After we played golf, we talked about the perspective for him at Manchester United.”

Van Gaal has been showing his ruthless streak in recent weeks having also confirmed that Victor Valdes will be sold following his refusal to play with the U21s. The experienced coach has a history of upsetting popular players for the good of his team and he is staying true to form at United.
