Manchester United are ahead in the race to sign free agent Sergio Romero and have offered him a €2m per year contract.
Gianluca di Marzio reports that although AS Roma are interested in bringing in Romero to offer competition to their current goalkeeper Morgan de Sanctis, United are believed to have come over the top with a bigger contract offer.
There have been some recent developments in United’s goalkeeping department which make it inevitable for there to be some movement in terms of players leaving and joining.
Although there is no firm update on whether David de Gea will leave this summer, Louis van Gaal all but confirmed Victor Valdes is on his way out after he lambasted the Spaniard for his attitude last season.
With Anders Lindegaard and Sam Johnstone also potentially leaving, it leaves United in serious need of a back-up goalkeeper and that’s the role you’d expect Romero to slot into.
Di Marzio says United have already made a move by offering Romero a better contract than Roma and the fact he played underneath Van Gaal before at AZ Alkmaar is giving plenty of legs to these growing reports.
