Sergio Ramos’ girlfriend, Pilar Rubio, was giving nothing away when asked about the rumours linking the Spaniard with a move to Manchester United this week.
Man United are said to be keen on Ramos and have reportedly submitted a new offer of €45m for him.
The player himself is reportedly unhappy at Madrid after suffering a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s hierarchy following failed contract negotiations.
Rubio refused to be drawn on the subject but insisted she will go wherever Ramos goes as it is important to be “together”.
When asked if Ramos is going to United, Rubio replied: “I will not talk about it. Although I know you have to ask, forgive me, but I can not discuss that.
“For us the most important thing is being together. We are a very close family and we always rely on each other for our professional decisions, and so it will remain. And if I move away, he will come with me. The important thing is to be together, we do not care where.
When quizzed about Ramos’ English, Rubio said: “He’s been learning with me for years. Sometimes together and sometimes separated. At home we try to put movies on in English.”
The situation has been complicated by Madrid’s pursuit of David de Gea, with United insistent that the keeper will not be leaving Old Trafford unless Ramos goes the other way.
Both players are now on their respective pre-season tours and it doesn’t look like they’ll be an end to the saga anytime soon. Ramos would be a fabulous addition at United but keeping De Gea would be equally as satisfying, if not more so, for supporters.
