Memphis Depay shows Manchester United fans his game has more than pace and power to it

Memphis Depay made his first appearance in a Manchester United shirt against Club America in Seattle and certainly didn’t disappoint.

The Dutchman, temporarily wearing the No.9 shirt for the Reds, was deployed just behind main striker Wayne Rooney in the No.10 role which came as a surprise to many who expected to see him on the left flank.

However, he really showed some guile and intelligence in that position and it let fans know that his game is not simply about pace and power but has a refined edge to it as well.

Memphis linked up well with Rooney and put him through on goal on a couple of occasions but United’s captain couldn’t convert. Overall, he’ll be happy with his debut just like the fans were:

Depay had a few cracking moments in the first half including the first touch pass to put Rooney through on goal. However, he’ll be demanding more from himself in the next game because he has that sort of approach to the game.

The world is now at Memphis’ feet but what he has to do is take it all one game at a time and keep aiming to improve with every performance, which we’re sure he will.
