Louis van Gaal intends to give Javier Hernandez another chance to prove himself at Manchester United on this year’s pre-season of USA.
Man United currently only have two senior strikers in the team in Wayne Rooney and James Wilson, so there is a real need for reinforcements up front heading into what is going to be a very busy season.
The Mexican striker was expected to be sold before getting any more opportunities to revive his career at Old Trafford but following the departures of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, Van Gaal is prepared to give him one more chance.
“Chicharito is coming on 25 July,” Van Gaal said after the game against Club America.
“Okay he can prove himself again and now Falcao and van Persie are gone, so his chances are better now.”
Nobody expected to see Chicharito in a United shirt again but Van Gaal has seen fit to allow him one more chance to revive his United career, which is great news for him.
In his pomp, Chicharito was always in the right place at the time and was a devastating finisher. He’s lost his confidence and lost that ability in recent times but Van Gaal must feel he has the ability to re-find that form.
One thing Hernandez will really need to improve if he is to stay at United is his all-round play because in Van Gaal’s team, there isn’t room for a simple goal poacher – he has to be more dynamic.
Nevertheless, it’s a real boost for Chicharito himself but whether he takes full advantage of it remains to be seen.
