Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Thomas Muller say Sport1 in Germany and fresh claims tonight say a huge €100m offer has been made to Bayern Munich for the striker.
Previously, Man United reportedly had an €82m for Muller rejected by Bayern and Karl-Heinze Rummenigge released a firm statement that the 25-year-old is not for sale at any price.
“I can reassure all the fans: We will give no other player at Manchester United,” Rummenigge is quoted by Sport1.
Out of all the strikers linked with United this summer including Karim Benzema, Alexandre Lacazette, Robert Lewandowski and others, nobody is better suited to the team Louis van Gaal is building than Muller.
Having played under Van Gaal at Bayern Munich, Muller has openly admitted he has a special relationship with the Dutch coach and there aren’t many more versatile strikers in world football.
However, as wonderful as it is to think of Muller playing for United, there is surely very little chance of Bayern Munich letting their poster-boy go, especially after letting Bastian Schweinsteiger move to Old Trafford.
One thing is for sure – United can afford it. All four players signed so far are covered by the new £75m per year Adidas sponsorship and with the likes of Robin van Persie and Nani off the wage bill, United have plenty of self-earned funds to re-invest wherever necessary.
