Schweinsteiger joined Man United earlier this month on a three-year deal for a fee of around £15m.
The German is quickly establishing himself as a firm fans’ favourite at the club despite the fact he has played just once in a red shirt.
In the second part of an interview with ManUtd.com, Schweinsteiger has now revealed his excitement at the prospect of playing with his new captain in the Premier League next term.
When asked if he was looking to forward to playing with Rooney, Schweinsteiger said: ”Absolutely. For me it a big honour to play with him in the same team. He is a leader, you can see that. He is a fighter, he is a striker, he is everything. I know that.
“It was also a reason to come here, to play with this kind of player.”
With eight Bundesliga titles, seven German Cups, a Champions League and World Cup medal, Schweinsteiger is undoubtedly one of Man United’s most experienced players.
Despite this, the 30-year-old has been very humble since joining the club. The praise for Rooney shows that the two have a great deal of mutual respect for each other. A truly lovable character, Schweinsteiger has been a breath of fresh air already at United.
The feeling between Rooney and Schweinsteiger will be mutual as well because as United’s captain will be just as excited at playing alongside one of the world’s most decorated players next season.
