Louis van Gaal has refused to rule out a move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos this summer.
Ramos has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, who have had multiple bids rejected for the Real Madrid captain according to reports.
The latest suggestion from the press is that any move for Ramos is impossible unless David de Gea is included in a deal but with United standing firm on his valuation, which Real Madrid are refusing to meet, that move was considered to be at a stalemate.
However, when asked by reporters in San Jose about the Ramos rumours, Van Gaal left the door wide open for a transfer.
“I cannot talk about these rumours,” Van Gaal said.
“I have said a lot, it’s a process, maybe Mr. Ramos is in the process…you never know.”
Van Gaal’s ambiguous comments on Ramos are noticeably different given his usual tendency to give absolutely nothing away when asked about transfers. Instead, the Dutchman gave fuel to the speculation with his response which is open to interpretation.
Of course, that doesn’t mean United are signing Ramos but Van Gaal’s comments will certainly add fuel to the fire that the 29-year-old could be the centre-back who fans are desperate for the club to sign.
As big as the signings of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin were, successfully bringing Ramos to Old Trafford and away from Real Madrid who do not want to sell him would be by far and away the biggest deal this summer.
