Memphis Depay and Wayne Rooney continue blossoming partnership for Manchester United

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United duo Memphis Depay and Wayne Rooney again linked up well during the 3-1 win against San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday night.

Memphis and Rooney had played together during the Club America game last time out and the signs of a potential partnership were certainly there.

They continued to enjoy each other’s company against San Jose and Memphis eventually opened his account for Man United with a nice finish just before half time.

The Dutchman made his name as a winger at PSV Eindhoven but Louis van Gaal may use him up top for United next term:

Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie have both left Old Trafford this summer, leaving Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson as the only out-and-out strikers at United.

Van Gaal had suggested earlier this week that he is targeting a ‘surprise’ forward, but he later dismissed these comments following the San Jose match. Perhaps the experienced coach sees Memphis and Rooney as his main strikers heading into the future.
