Memphis Depay scored his first ever goal for Manchester United tonight with a superbly taken effort against San Jose Earthquakes.
The Dutchman pounced on a poor back-pass from a San Jose defender and calmly slotted home past the goalkeeper with his right foot after opening up his body.
It was the finish of an accomplished striker and with that sort of composure it isn’t hard to see why Memphis ended the Eredivisie season with 22 goals as the league’s top goalscorer.
He’ll be delighted to have got his first ever Man United goal and it’s something he’ll want to be doing all season long.
Although Memphis got his first goal and created a few opportunities from his central role, United fans are eager to see the 21-year-old play on the wing.
It was from the left-wing where he scored 22 league goals for PSV last season and although Ashley Young cutting inside was effective, having somebody dynamic like Memphis has the potential to be more dangerous and it’s a role he knows like the back of his hand.
