Louis van Gaal delighted with Manchester United’s ‘beautiful goal’ against San Jose Earthquakes

Louis van Gaal has expressed his delight at the quality of Andreas Pereira‘s goal in Tuesday night’s 3-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes.

Goals from Juan Mata and Memphis Depay put Manchester United 2-1 up at half-time before Pereira put the result beyond doubt with a rare header in the second half.

The Brazilian’s finish came after some neat work on the right hand side from Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard, with the latter’s cross picking out the lively 19-year-old.

Speaking after the game, van Gaal showed his appreciation and slight surprise at Pereira’s headed goal.

“Yeah, it’s remarkable,” van Gaal joked.

“I liked the goal of Pereira. It was a beautiful goal, a beautiful attack also, and he’s not so big. But, at the right moment, there’s the gap and the header is also very good.”

“I like this goal but, of course, I like every goal that Manchester United can score!”

Pereira’s movement and skill was the highlight of an otherwise uneventful second half for Man United and his goal was fully deserved. An attacking winger by trade, Pereira had no problems adjusting to the no.10 slot in the second half.

However, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Memphis and Mata all able to fulfil that position, it seems like Pereira’s best chance of featuring under van Gaal next season is to play out wide.

The nimble Brazilian will hope to replicate Tyler Blackett and Lingard, who both managed to secure a place in van Gaal’s starting XI after impressing in last year’s pre-season.
