Potential XI: Manchester United vs Barcelona – Andreas Pereira starts

by Ben Topliss

Andreas Pereira has been arguably Manchester United’s standout performer during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Coming on as a half-time substitute in the victories against Club America and San Jose Earthquakes, Pereira’s trickery and movement has been a dangerous asset for Louis van Gaal’s side.

He eventually capped off his fine performance against San Jose with a goal by heading in Jesse Lingard’s ball into the box.

Van Gaal may well be persuaded to start the 19-year-old against Barcelona as a result.

Elsewhere, David de Gea could return from injury to face Luis Enrique’s side after he missed United’s two previous fixtures.

There have been rumours that his absence may have something to do with his potential move to Real Madrid but van Gaal’s comments after the San Jose game appear to suggest that he is genuinely injured.

Bastian Schweinsteiger may also get the nod in midfield now that he has had a few weeks to build up his fitness. The German was disappointing against San Jose but he just needs time to settle in.
