Franks Hoek admits Manchester United rely on David de Gea

Manchester United’s goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek has admitted that the club are relying on goalkeeper David de Gea for the coming season.

De Gea’s future has been the centre of a huge transfer saga this summer, a saga which if completed would see Man United lose one of the best goalkeepers in the world reluctantly.

He was a vital cog in Louis van Gaal‘s team last season and his stand-out performances against the likes of Everton and Liverpool helped United earn a top four spot in the Premier League.

Last night against Barcelona in his first pre-season performance, De Gea was his usual imperious self despite having not played for so long.

Hoek was quick to praise De Gea and admitted United’s reliance on the Spanish goalkeeper.

“He is working with us [and] we rely on him” he said.

Man United fans will be desperate to keep hold of De Gea, with the Spanish international reminding supporters how important he is to the squad with a string of impressive saves against Barcelona on Saturday.

However, his future remains in the balance with Sergio Ramos reportedly reconfirming his desire to leave Real Madrid to President Florentino Perez.

Regardless of his future, one thing that remains intact throughout these negotiations is United’s reputation. Chairman Ed Woodward has acted remarkably throughout transfer discussions and has not bowed down to Madrid’s usual demands, to the point where any deal for De Gea will likely see Ramos join United.
