Manchester United are close to securing the signing of Spanish forward Pedro from Barcelona for £22.8m, according to James Ducker of The Times.
Pedro is expected to replace Angel di Maria at Old Trafford as the Argentine is closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Louis van Gaal is fond of a versatile player and Pedro certainly fits the ball in that respect.
He is capable of playing anywhere across the front line and is far more suited to van Gaal’s possession based system.
There is a question mark over whether or not the 27-year-old is in the top-tier of players required if United are to challenge on all fronts next season but for £22m, it is an opportunity too good to miss.
Van Gaal isn’t finished with his transfer business and a number of other players have been strongly linked with moves to Old Trafford.
Sergio Ramos, Nicolas Otamendi and Thomas Muller are all said to be on United’s radar, while van Gaal refused to drawn on rumours that Cristiano Ronaldo will re-sign for the club during a sit down with the British press last week.
