Rio Ferdinand winds up Ian Wright about Karim Benzema joining Manchester United over Arsenal

Rio Ferdinand has been winding up Ian Wright about Karim Benzema’s cryptic message and while the joke is funny, it could also turn out to be true.

The French striker might not be in Rafa Benitez’s plans next year as the new Real Madrid manager has been trying out different formations that revolve around Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Jese Rodriguez as the main strikers as a part of a 4-4-2 formation.

On Tuesday, Benzema posted a picture to his Instagram account of him on a plane, which has Arsenal and Manchester United fans wondering where he is headed.

The post was captioned: “Laissons le passe au passe.. #rip #directiontorfu”. It translates to “Let us leave the past in the past.. #rip #directiontorfu”

Wright appears to be extremely excited with the prospect of Benzema coming to Arsenal but Ferdinand reckons United will steal him from under the Gunners’ noses.

Benzema has been linked with both clubs this summer with both Louis van Gaal and Arsene Wenger in need of a striker to turn them into genuine contenders for the Premier League title this season.

Arsenal have a particularly strong French contingent with defender Laurent Koscielny and striker Olivier Giroud already at the club but United managed to convince Frenchman Morgan Schneiderlin to join them ahead of Arsenal recently and could do the same with Benzema.

While it may be all false speculation, as Sky Sports’ Bryan Swanson has suggested, Benzema must be aware as to the commotion such a post can cause in the age of social media.
