Sergio Ramos has signed a new contract with Real Madrid and will stay at the club until at least 2020, according to Marca.
The Madrid based newspaper says the agreement has already been reached and will be made official before the start of the 2015/16 La Liga season on 23 August.
Manchester United have been pursuing Ramos this summer and more than one bid has been rejected by Real Madrid. Now, it looks like any pursuit is over following the agreement of a contract extension.
United really need a new centre-back this summer and Ramos would have been a world class signing but Louis van Gaal will have to turn his attention elsewhere if he wants to bring somebody in this summer.
Fans will concede that a move for Ramos always seemed unlikely given that he is now Real Madrid’s captain and questions will now be asked to what is happening with David de Gea.
Reports have stated, on multiple occasions from various outlets, that United were only willing to let De Gea leave if it meant Ramos came in the other direction. Does this mean that he’ll now be staying?
This is not the first time a player has been linked heavily with United and gone on to sign a new contract at his current club, nor will it be the last.
