Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United are well prepared to make next season a memorable one.

Louis van Gaal has brought Sergio Romero, Matteo Darmian, Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger into his squad this summer.

On top of the new arrivals, the likes of Luke Shaw, Andreas Pereira and Adnan Januzaj have impressed during Man United’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Rooney praised the club’s young players and insisted that the United squad can be successful next term.

“I feel we have the right squad in terms of hoping to be successful in the new season and I think it’s an exciting time for the team,” he said.

“A lot of the younger players came on for the last 30 minutes and did really well against a quality team. That will give them a lot of confidence.”

Rooney’s comments may suggest that there might not be too many more signings at Old Trafford before the start of the new campaign.

United have done some good business this summer but they undoubtedly need a new centre-back and a world-class striker if they really want to challenge on all fronts. Keeping David de Gea at United should also be high on the club’s agenda.
