Manchester United want to sign a centre-back and striker – report

Manchester United are hoping to sign a central defender and a striker before the transfer window closes, according to Andy Mitten.

Man United have had a busy summer in terms of transfer activity, with a number of players such as Robin van Persie and Nani leaving the club.

In their place, the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin have arrived at Old Trafford.

United have brought in five players in total but Louis van Gaal is not satisfied with his squad and still wants a striker and a centre-back.

Up top, van Gaal only really has Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson as his out-and-out strikers.

Meanwhile, Daley Blind played at the back during the pre-season tour of the United States and was unconvincing.

Van Gaal lamented the fact that United don’t have a player such as Sergio Aguero or Lionel last month and it is clear he wants a star name. Thomas Muller, Pedro and Sergio Ramos have all been linked with moves to Old Trafford.
