Bastian Schweinsteiger hasn’t officially been given a shirt number by Manchester United yet but fans doing the Old Trafford tour yesterday may well have been the first to see his number.
In the dressing room, Schweinsteiger’s shirt had No.31 on the back of it. Is that the number he will wear this season?
At the moment, Marouane Fellaini wears the No.31 shirt at Man United, so he would have to change his number and if he wanted to take up the old No.25 shirt he wore at Everton, then Antonio Valencia would have to change his.
Schweinsteiger has plenty of affection for the No.31. It was the number he wore at Bayern Munich which became so famous that there were calls from some to retire the number after he had left.
Also, he’s just turned 31 this year, so it would be fitting in more ways than one if he was given the shirt.
Will Schweinsteiger be making the No.31 shirt as famous at United as he did at Bayern Munich?
