Rafael shares picture of himself in new Olympique Lyonnais shirt

Both Manchester United and Olympique Lyonnais have made announcements to confirm Rafael da Silva’s move to France and now the Brazilian defender has been pictured in his new Lyon kit.

The 25-year-old is all smiles in his new kit and why wouldn’t he be? After enduring a torrid couple of seasons both under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, he’ll now get the opportunity to play regular first-team football once again for the first time in a few years.

It feels wrong to see Rafael in another kit doesn’t it? After all, he had been at Man United for seven years from when he arrived as an unknown, boisterous 18-year-old from Fluminese with his twin brother Fabio.

Andy Mitten reported back in August 2014 that Rafael was told he could leave the club, but he chose not to. He stayed to try and fight for his place in the team because he didn’t want to leave. That sort of commitment is why fans loved him and always will.

However, Rafael has now moved on to pastures new and every United fan will be hoping that he can go on to have a successful career in France having given so much during his time in Manchester.
