Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has revealed he wants Pedro to stay at Barcelona despite widespread reports suggesting that the winger is set to join Manchester United.
The two clubs held talks over the player’s future last week in preparation for the Spaniard’s signing.
Pedro is now set to play his final game for game for Barcelona tomorrow in the Gamper Cup against AS Roma before leaving for Manchester.
Regardless, Enrique is keen to keep the 28-year-old for the upcoming season.
“Pedro is a high-level player and as a coach I want him to stay here, but is his decision,” he said.
“There will only be exits if someone wants to leave and at the moment we don’t have news about this.”
Pedro won the treble under Enrique last season but was on the periphery of proceedings as the attacking triumvirate of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez proved to be irreplaceable.
After the departure of Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain, Pedro is set to be Louis van Gaal‘s first-choice winger in an exciting new vanguard of attacking talent under the Dutchman.
This new challenge may be too good to refuse for a player who has already won everything in Spain, but leaving such a coveted young manager in Enrique will be a difficult thing to do.
