Manchester United’s potential XI vs Tottenham Hotspur including Pedro Rodriguez

by Ben Topliss

If Manchester United complete the signing of Barcelona’s Pedro this week, as is widely expected, the Spaniard could well line up in the Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur.

Pedro has taken part in a large chunk of Barcelona’s pre-season and is match fit ahead of the new campaign, so there is no reason why he can’t feature in the game if Man United sign him in time.

There have been reports this week that the 28-year-old will be given a starring role in a 4-3-3 system alongside Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay.

It is an exciting prospect and United’s starting XI with Pedro in it should cause plenty of problems for opposition defenders:

Elsewhere, Ander Herrera will have a much higher chance of starting the match if van Gaal decides to use a midfield trio.

United played a 4-2-3-1 during the pre-season tour of the United States, which meant Herrera was often left out in favour of Morgan Schneiderlin, Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Herrera was one of United’s best players last season and he should be able to make more of an impact in games with proper midfielders alongside him.
