Teddy Sheringham: Harry Kane right to stay at Tottenham Hotspur despite Manchester United interest

by Robbie Dunne

Teddy Sheringham believes that Harry Kane would be wise to stay at Tottenham Hotspur amid rumours of interest from Manchester United.

Kane set the Premier League alight last season with 21 goals in 34 appearances. The English international has been linked with a move to Man United as a result and just yesterday reports emerged of the club submitting a £40m bid for the striker.

Sheringham, who played for both United and Spurs during his career, believes Kane would be better to stay at Spurs where he appears to be thoroughly enjoying his football.

“He’s at where he’s at and that’s a very sensible decision to take at the moment. He should be honoured still to play for Tottenham – and the way he speaks he is,” he said.

“He’s loving every minute of it so he hasn’t got eyes for anyone else. I don’t think he’s a flash in the pan or a one-season wonder.

“I really think he’s the real deal and wants to learn and if it doesn’t come as easy for him as last year he’ll find a way to do it in other ways.”

If United are still in the market for a striker this summer, they could do a lot worse than Kane. One of the biggest issues with foreign signings is that they are coming from different countries and have trouble adapting to the Premier League.

Kane is physical and uses his strength well. He is the kind of striker that would benefit from the help of United’s creative talents lined up behind him.

There is a sense that Kane would be better off staying at Spurs, however, as one good season does not merit a fee in the region of £40m. If he repeats his performance levels next year, he could be worth shelling out for and perhaps United could reconsider at that point.
