Former Arsenal and Barcelona striker Thierry Henry believes that Pedro would be a perfect signing for Manchester United.
Pedro’s move from Barcelona looks set to be completed before the end of this transfer window amid reports that the winger is keen to leave the Camp Nou after ten seasons at the club.
Henry, who played with Pedro at Barcelona, knows the Spaniard incredibly well after seeing him first hand as a youngster.
Speaking to Marca, Henry insisted that the 28-year-old is an ideal signing for Louis van Gaal.
“Van Gaal went on to buy players this summer that can suit the way he wants to play – that’s why he wants Pedro,” Henry said.
“Pedro knows those tactics, he can do what Van Gaal wants.
“I’ve seen him at Barcelona, he was putting pressure on and staying out wide – he has it.
“It’s the same with [Bastian] Schweinsteiger – Van Gaal knows that if he asks Schweinsteiger to do something, he’ll do it.”
Many seem to forget that Barcelona’s acclaimed style of football was endowed by Van Gaal himself.
The Dutchman’s ‘Total Football’ approach advocated a pressing, possession based style of dominant football that paved the way for the tiki-taka revolution, allowing the likes of Xavi and Iniesta to excel at the Camp Nou.
In many ways, the Barcelona doctrine is tantamount to Van Gaal’s philosophy. Somebody like Pedro, who has been at Barcelona since he was a boy, is familiar with Van Gaal’s methods despite never playing under the Dutchman.
This is why, unlike Angel Di Maria, Pedro looks far more suited to life under Van Gaal at Old Trafford as he’ll understand the ethos he is playing under from the outset.
