Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta hopes that Pedro will stay at Barcelona amid speculation over the winger’s future.
The 29-year-old struggled for game time last season under Luis Enrique and reportedly wants to move away from the Nou Camp in order to secure regular minutes on the pitch elsewhere.
Iniesta, who has won 19 major trophies with Pedro, wants the winger to remain at Barcelona.
“As of today we are not thinking that we could lose him,” Iniesta said.
“Hopefully, as a team-mate and a player he can continue with us because he is a world-class player.”
Pedro’s probable departure from Catalonia has been met with a vehement level of resistance; manager Luis Enrique has already made it clear that he wishes for Pedro to stay.
Former Barcelona player Hristo Stoichkov has also rubbished the potential move. Current teammates Dani Alves, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi have all voiced their support for Pedro as well.
It is testament to the quality Pedro possesses as an attacking talent, as well as a tireless team player. However, since Pedro has already won everything possible at Barcelona on multiple occasions, sporadic appearances under Enrique next season may seem unappealing alongside the prospect of regular Premier League football under Louis van Gaal.
