Predicted XI and Starting Formation: Aston Villa vs Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

Sergio Romero – David de Gea still isn’t ready to play according to Louis van Gaal, so Romero is in line to start his second consecutive game.

Matteo Darmian Was fantastic against Tottenham Hotspur, here’s hoping he can do the same again.

Chris Smalling – Manchester United’s man of the match last week.

Daley Blind – Marcos Rojo still isn’t fit, so Blind is certain to start.

Luke Shaw – When fit, he’ll be starting every game.

Morgan Schneiderlin United’s first choice central midfielder this season. Bossed it against Spurs after recovering from a shaky start.

Michael Carrick – As it is an away game, Van Gaal will want the presence of Carrick to make it more solid in the middle.

Ashley Young – Van Gaal is a big fan of how Young is playing at the moment.

Juan Mata – Do United have a viable option on the right-wing apart from Mata?

Memphis Depay – Will he start in the No.10 role? Most probably, but he’ll start.

Wayne Rooney A guaranteed starter this season when fit, like he used to be before he held the club to ransom.

Predicted formation = 4-2-3-1: Away from home, the extra holding midfielder would give United much more defensive protection and Van Gaal will be desperate to perform better on the road this season, so expect him to be pragmatic.
