David de Gea ‘baffled’ by Louis van Gaal claims he doesn’t want to play for Manchester United

David de Gea is said to be ‘baffled’ by claims from Louis van Gaal that he asked to be dropped from the Manchester United squad, according to the Daily Mail.

Van Gaal, in his press conference on Thursday, revealed that De Gea had asked not to be included in the starting XI during a conversation with goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek amid ongoing speculation he is set to join Real Madrid.

Although De Gea’s camp confirmed that the meeting with Hoek took place, they have refuted suggestions that he asked to be left out.

Instead, De Gea made it clear he wants to be considered for selection having trained ‘at the highest possible level’ this week.

The Spaniard is said to have a ‘completely clear conscience’ about the situation and is concerned that his professionalism is being brought into question.

The whole saga really is turning into a mess. Neither party is covering themselves in glory by playing it out so publicly and the club are looking more and more unprofessional by the day.

Whatever happens, United cannot afford to let De Gea’s situation disrupt their preparations for the trip to Aston Villa on Friday and the rest of their fixtures this month. The saga must be concluded sooner rather than later.
