Guillem Balague: Manchester City leading race for Manchester United target Pedro

by Ben Topliss

Manchester City are leading the race to sign Barcelona forward Pedro, according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

Pedro has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks and it looked like a deal was close.

However, Balague claims that Man United are yet to reach the player’s €30m buyout clause. City, meanwhile, have met the asking price plus €2m in bonuses.

Chelsea are also said to be interested but they are behind in the negotiations.

United are in need of a creative force following the departure of Angel di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain.

Although the club must not be held to ransom over a player, it is frustrating to see that United are haggling over the minor details of a deal for Pedro. They should pay up, and quickly, in order to give the Spaniard as much time as possible to settle in.
