Ander Herrera enjoys superb cameo in birthday appearance against Aston Villa

Manchester United’s Spanish duo Juan Mata and Ander Herrera both played crucial roles in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Friday night.

Mata, who started the game, set-up Adnan Januzaj in the first half with a delectable through-ball and although he gave away the ball too often just like so many other United players, he also played a hand in so much of Man United’s positive attacking play.

As for Herrera, the game swung massively in United’s favour after he was brought on alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger in midfield because together they brought great composure into the game.

Yesterday was Herrera’s birthday so three points was the perfect gift for him and he certainly looked delighted on the train back to United.

Together, Mata and Herrera’s silky style of football is always a joy to watch and although the uncertain David de Gea is casting a Spanish shadow over both of them, their friendship looks as strong as ever.

Mata was also kind enough to give us one of the best ever photos taken during a football match. It’s so picturesque that it almost looks like Mata should be a Roman statue doesn’t it?
