Memphis: I like to mix up my routine in the gym

Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has got plenty of assets to his game but his raw physical power and strength is without doubt one of his best when it comes to adapting to the Premier League.

The Dutchman has caught the eye since his move to Man United and his physique has been a huge topic of discussion. 

Despite being just 21, Memphis already looks like a player who can hold his own in the Premier League. The youngster was hugely praised by his old club PSV Eindhoven for the work he did off the pitch and he has now given fans an insight into how he likes to stay fit.

When asked what his gym routine was, Memphis said: “Everybody’s asking me that! To be honest, sometimes I just go to the gym and do some exercise for myself.”

Given the farce that surrounded United’s previous number 7, Angel di Maria, United fans will be delighted to hear Memphis putting in the hard work to become a crucial player in Van Gaal’s squad.

The midfielder added: “It’s not always as part of a routine given to me by my trainer – it’s just for myself. I do sit-ups, push-ups… just to keep my body in shape. I don’t want to look really big – I just want to stay in shape. I don’t do the same exercises every day – I like to mix it up.”

In his short United career, Memphis has already proven his strength and power and it is easy to see his hard work paying off on the pitch. In such a physical league, many newcomers to England struggle to deal with the demanding nature of English football.

Memphis’ grafting has meant he has come to United and already looked like he belongs in the toughest league in the world. Given his hard work, fans are hoping it is only a matter of time before the youngster starts to really make a name for himself at Old Trafford.
