Manchester United fans dismayed as club pulls out of race for Barcelona forward Pedro

In the space of a few hours on Wednesday, Manchester United’s pursuit of Barcelona forward Pedro turned completely upside down.

The club pulled out of the race to sign the Spaniard, reportedly on the orders of Louis van Gaal, allowing Chelsea to become the frontrunners for his signature.

It really is a mess as far as Man United are concerned. If they weren’t interested in Pedro, then why did Ed Woodward fly out to Spain earlier this week to ‘conclude a deal’?

United fans were dismayed with the news after weeks of reports linking the player with a move to Old Trafford:

Woodward did brilliantly to secure the signings of Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin before United’s pre-season tour earlier this summer but the Pedro situation has been handled terribly.

The official club line that they were never interested in Pedro is obviously just to save face. United failed to meet Barcelona’s €30m buyout clause and they have paid for it dearly.
