Bastian Schweinsteiger cost Manchester United £6.3m rather than the £15m fee that was reported upon the German’s arrival, according to The Independent.

The former Bayern Munich man was received with rapturous acclaim by supporters, who were overjoyed at the prospect of having such experience and steel in the middle of the park.

Despite the fact that Schweinsteiger is yet to start a game for United, he has already secured his status as a fans’ favourite at Old Trafford after several assured, organised displays.

Many United fans thought that £15m for such a coveted midfielder was a bargain. In the context of today’s modern football market, £6.3m is an absolute steal.

His excellent performance against Club Brugge left United fans scratching their heads over why the German isn’t starting matches.

A confident, calming figure in the middle of the pitch, Schweinsteiger has the unique ability to move all of his teammates at his pace, and thus dictate the tempo of a match. His inclusion gives those around him a platform in which to excel and dominate.

While many will point out that Louis van Gaal has made more important signings this window, the added quality that comes with Schweinsteiger’s presence is an invaluable asset in itself.
