Danny Higginbotham disappointed as Manchester United miss out on Chelsea-bound Pedro

Former Manchester United player Danny Higginbotham is upset with news that his former club have missed out on Barcelona winger Pedro.

United were linked with the Spanish attacker for weeks and had reportedly agreed personal terms but news broke recently that they had pulled out of negotiations as Chelsea were replaced as favourites to sign him.

United have been on the lookout for an Angel di Maria replacement, who can score and somebody who might be able to assist Wayne Rooney in getting back to top form. Pedro can do all of the above and stretch defences with his direct running in order to allow Rooney and others picks you apart.

Higginbotham believes that not only do Chelsea get stronger but it might force United back into the transfer market for a player that could make a bigger impact and it could put pressure on United hierarchy to act fast and without adequate research.

It is frustrating to see so much groundwork put in by Ed Woodward and Louis van Gaal only to lose out to a rival at the last minute. However, all hope is not lost and with talk of a Sadio Mane bid it could be the case that they are assessing their options.

Ed Woodward will need a big two weeks in order to appease United fans as they still believe that a striker and a central defender are top of the list of priorities.
