Manchester United are looking to make it three from three in the Premier League this weekend when they take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford in Saturday’s afternoon kickoff.
Man United have not conceded a goal in the Premier League thus far and will look to continue that trend while they also try to build on an impressive attacking performance in the qualification stage of the Champions League against Club Brugge.
Sergio Romero looks set to start in goal as David de Gea‘s future remains up in the air. The back four looks as consistent as it ever has under Louis van Gaal and the Dutchman is unlikely to change it while the going is good.
Bastian Schweinstieger played the second half against Brugge following an unimpressive performance from Michael Carrick in the opening 45 minutes. Schweinstieger knitted the side together from the middle and got forward more often than his teammate. His performance warrants a start against Newcastle.
The German has been building up fitness for the opening few games of the season and now appears to have found his form under van Gaal. It is as good a time as any to give the new signing his first start in a United shirt.
Wayne Rooney has come under fire for his performances this season and will look to return to form against Newcastle at home. Van Gaal’s options are limited up top and he will most likely stick with his captain for another few games before a decision is made to drop him or move his into a deeper role. Newcastle have conceded four goals in two games and United will try to attack at every opportunity when their opponents travel to Old Trafford on Saturday.
