Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is delighted to have made his Champions League debut for the club.

The 20-year-old got his first taste of Champions League football as Man United beat Club Brugge 3-1 at Old Trafford in the first leg of their qualifier.

United moved one stage closer to the group stage of the competition and Shaw put on an impressive display at left-back.

Shaw, making his third successive start this season, was overjoyed to be playing in the Champions League having watched it for so long as a young boy.

Speaking after the Club Brugge game, Shaw said: “The best bit about it was the music at the start, you always love the music, but it was great to get my first taste of it,” he said.

“I want to win so much next week, to get involved in the Champions League, so I am hoping we can do that. I know what it is all about, the Champions League, I have watched it for years now, so to be a part of it would be a memorable feeling.”

The Englishman showcased all the qualities that had been missing from his performances last year and is starting to show signs of growing into a top class full-back.

He’s now made the left-back berth his own, the ex-Southampton man will be looking to carry his good form into United’s next home game against Newcastle on Saturday.

After that game comes the second leg against Brugge next week. Another good performance from United would mean Shaw and his teammates are heading the famous Champions League tune on a much more regular basis.
