Matteo Darmian puts in another strong performance as great Manchester United start continues

by Sam Peoples

Matteo Darmian was once again one of the stand-out performers for Manchester United in today’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle.

While Man United’s performance in attack left lots of fans frustrated, the defence once again looked extremely solid and secured their third clean sheet in consecutive games which is definitely a big positive.

Chris Smalling was dominant in the heart of defence, Romero was confident whenever called upon and Darmian himself really did excel.

In defence, he always held his position and never let Newcastle through without a fight and in attack he was always an outlet on the right-wing.

The frustrating thing is that United failed to make anything from the good chances they created and therefore had to come away with one point from a game that was there for the taking.

There will rightly be plenty of questions asked about United’s poor performance in attack and the real lack of tempo in the final third of the pitch but Darmian’s assured display is another real positive.
